Company / Role Overview

A global organisation is seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop and support secure and scalable backend applications using .NET Core, C# and AWS cloud services. The role will focus on backend development, APIs, microservices and event-driven integrations, working across product, architecture, QA, DevOps/SRE, cloud platform and vendor teams to deliver and support reliable cloud-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test and maintain backend applications using .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET Core Web APIs, Entity Framework Core and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Develop secure REST APIs, microservices and reusable integration components, incorporating appropriate validation, versioning, authentication, authorisation and error handling.
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous solutions using AWS SNS, SQS, Lambda and EventBridge, including publish/subscribe, queue-based processing, retries, dead-letter queues and message tracing.
  • Support AWS-hosted workloads across services including API Gateway, Lambda, EKS/ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Secrets Manager, IAM and CloudWatch.
  • Apply microservices, distributed systems, resiliency, observability, logging and monitoring practices to improve application reliability and operational support.
  • Investigate and resolve issues across application code, APIs, databases, messaging services, cloud infrastructure and deployment environments.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including specifications, API contracts, event/message schemas, sequence diagrams, solution notes and operational support documentation.
  • Support CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, releases and infrastructure-as-code activities using relevant Git-based development, deployment and automation tools, while contributing to reusable engineering standards and practices.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • 6–8 years of software development experience covering design, development, testing, release and production support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core / .NET 6+, C#, ASP.NET Core, Web APIs, Entity Framework Core, LINQ, asynchronous programming and secure coding practices.
  • Practical AWS development experience across services including SNS, SQS, Lambda, EventBridge, API Gateway, EKS/ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Secrets Manager, IAM and CloudWatch.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging patterns, including publish/subscribe, queue-based processing, fan-out, retry policies, dead-letter queues, idempotency, correlation IDs and eventual consistency.
  • Experience with microservices, REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, JSON, XML, service-to-service communication and API-led integration.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server, PostgreSQL and NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB or DynamoDB, together with Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with unit, integration, contract and performance testing; automated testing; application security; secrets management; encryption; least-privilege access; OWASP principles; and secure API design.
  • Experience with development and engineering tools such as Visual Studio, NuGet, Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Postman, JMeter, Jenkins, GitHub Actions and monitoring/logging platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams and collaborate across product, architecture, engineering, QA, DevOps/SRE, cloud platform and vendor stakeholders.
