Head of Import and Export Compliance

We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Head of Import and Export Compliance. The objective of this role is to ensure full compliance with customs regulations across multiple countries, manage customs risk, and enable efficient and compliant international trade operations. The role will also serve as a key advisor on import/export matters and develop policies and controls to support business growth.

Job Purpose:

  • Minimize import duty fees through optimal customs strategies and utilization of relevant free trade agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs regulations and manage all documentation and licensing requirements for import/export activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Import/Export Compliance:
    • Oversee and ensure full compliance with all customs laws, regulations, and procedures in both local and international markets.
    • Manage customs clearance documentation, HS classification, and valuation.
    • Maintain audit readiness and manage relationships with customs authorities.
  1. Duty Optimization & Tax Incentives:
    • Strategically manage and minimize import duties and tariffs by leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), duty drawback programs, and other customs schemes.
    • Monitor and apply for tax incentives and exemptions available for eligible products or markets.
  1. Documentation & Process Management:
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
    • Lead internal audits and develop standard operating procedures for import/export processes.
  1. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Lead and mentor a team of customs and trade compliance professionals.
    • Partner with supply chain, procurement, legal, and finance to align compliance with broader business objectives.
    • Act as a key stakeholder in cross-border projects and new market entry assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Law, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in import/export and customs compliance, preferably in FMCG or relevance industry
  • Proven experience managing customs documentation and clearance processes.
  • Familiarity with international trade agreements, WTO regulations, and local customs laws.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management and leadership skills
  • Fluent in English
