Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Release Lead to join a large and complex financial services environment. This role will be responsible for governing the end-to-end release lifecycle, ensuring strong change control, effective release planning, and smooth coordination of deployment activities across multiple teams and platforms.

The successful candidate will own the release calendar, drive release readiness, oversee production deployments, and ensure all releases are delivered in line with operational, risk, and governance standards. Due to the nature of the role, the Release Lead will also be expected to provide out-of-hours / night-time standby support during key deployment windows.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and govern the end-to-end release lifecycle across business and technology teams
• Ensure robust change lifecycle governance is in place and adhered to
• Own and maintain the release calendar, ensuring visibility of upcoming releases, dependencies, clashes, and key milestones
• Coordinate release planning activities across development, testing, infrastructure, operations, and business stakeholders
• Oversee deployment execution and ensure releases are delivered in a controlled, timely, and low-risk manner
• Chair or support release readiness and change review meetings
• Track release risks, issues, dependencies, and escalations through to resolution
• Ensure appropriate approvals, controls, documentation, and audit trails are in place for all releases
• Work closely with DevOps, engineering, support, and operational teams to improve release quality and deployment efficiency
• Provide standby support during night-time deployments and critical release events where required
• Drive continuous improvement in release management, governance, tooling, and reporting

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in a Release Lead, Release Manager, Change Manager, or DevOps delivery/governance role
• Strong understanding of change management and release lifecycle governance within a complex enterprise environment
• Experience managing release calendars, deployment schedules, and cross-team coordination
• Hands-on experience overseeing production deployments and release execution
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate across technology, operations, and business teams
• Experience working in highly controlled environments with strong focus on risk, compliance, and auditability
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage critical releases and incidents effectively
• Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills

Desirable Experience

• Experience within financial services, banking, insurance, or another regulated industry
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release automation
• Knowledge of enterprise change/release tooling such as ServiceNow, Jira, or similar platforms
• Experience supporting large-scale, multi-application or multi-platform release environments
