Solution Architect – Ledger & Payments / $70-90k P/M / 12 month extendable contract

We are hiring for an experienced Solution Architect to support a major platform modernisation programme in Hong Kong. This role will focus on the discovery and architecture phase for a high-volume ledger and payments environment, helping assess the current-state platform and shape the target-state roadmap.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across architecture review, system modernisation, cloud readiness, payment integration, and event-driven design. This is a strong opportunity for someone with deep experience in transactional platforms, account processing, payments, or ledger-based systems within a regulated or high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical discovery and current-state architecture assessment across ledger, account processing, payments, integration, middleware, database, and infrastructure layers.
• Define target-state architecture principles and candidate solution patterns, including event-driven architecture, CQRS, event sourcing, domain events, active-active design, and cloud/hybrid deployment models.
• Assess cloud migration and modernisation options for high-volume, mission-critical transactional platforms.
• Provide architectural guidance on Hong Kong payment infrastructure, including FPS, EFT/EPSCO, payment gateways, and bank integration.
• Review non-functional requirements across performance, availability, resilience, security, audit, data retention, and regulatory controls.
• Evaluate existing middleware, messaging, and integration patterns, recommending modern alternatives where appropriate.
• Work closely with business analysts, engineering teams, and senior stakeholders to ensure business requirements are technically feasible and aligned to the wider architecture roadmap.
• Produce architecture artefacts including current-state diagrams, target-state blueprints, decision records, and technology evaluation reports.
• Present recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, or technical architecture.
• Strong background in high-volume transactional platforms, ideally across ledger, account processing, payments, banking, fintech, wagering, trading, or financial systems.
• Good knowledge of payment architecture and integration, with Hong Kong FPS / HKICL exposure highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience designing cloud-native or hybrid architecture across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, messaging, APIs, distributed systems, and modern integration patterns.
• Experience with high-availability, disaster recovery, active-active environments, and mission-critical production systems.
• Familiarity with relational databases, OLTP platforms, performance tuning, and large-scale transaction processing.
• Comfortable working in regulated environments with strong security, audit, compliance, and data retention requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex architecture topics into clear recommendations.

Nice to Have

• Experience in wagering, gaming, parimutuel, banking, payments, or capital markets platforms.
• Prior involvement in legacy-to-modern platform transformation.
• Exposure to middleware such as Kafka, Solace, RabbitMQ, or similar.
• Cloud or architecture certifications such as AWS, Azure, GCP, TOGAF, or equivalent.
• English required; Cantonese would be advantageous.
